History of Campbell Elementary School

Not much is publicly available about Campbell Elementary School online however AbandonedCommercialDetroit is working to find out information stay tuned

Campbell Elementary School is a school along the Chene Corridor by Poletown East, the school is believed to be a post WWII expansion for the booming population of Detroit after WWII. The school was a notable addition to the neighborhood, some sources claim a much smaller school predated Campbell however this is unconfirmed. Due to a mix match of paint and design choices it seems Campbell had at least one addition in its life serving Detroit Public Schools. The addition appears to be the two story “addon” facing Chene St. Students say Campbell was a big part of their early childhood, and some messages somehow still intact in the school confirm this. Through the early 2010 arson fires hit the Poletown East neighborhood very hard, however when Campbell closed in 2012 it has suffered only a couple minor fires inside the school.

Recollection from the author

Campbell though trashed throughout was a beautiful school from the mural and artwork to the character told from boards around the school likely from the last day of operation. Campbell was a school I had wanted to do for a long time and I was very happy when I had the opportunity to do it. Due to its very boarded up nature the school like Burt Elementary had a very creepy dark hue in the air. This made photos hard in some areas but all together it was a great exploration.
