In 1953 Burger King was founded as Insta-Burger King in Jacksonville Florida. When it ran into financial difficulties in the late 50s, two owners of Miami based Insta Burger King franchises (David Edgerton and James McLamore) bought the company in 1959. Just two years earlier in 1957, James McLamore had created the signature Whopper Sandwich that Burger King is known by today. By the late 60s the chain had successfully grown and expaned into Michigan, this Burger King location at Kelly and Morang rds. was built in the mid 1980s between 1983 and 1987 according to historic aerial imagery. Into the mid 2010s the restaurant had kept its original design, however was remodeled around this same time and by 2017 had received its modern look it is known by today. In 2022 the restaurant was closed and in 2023 it was boarded up, since then the back section of the restaurant has been scrapped throughout however aside from smashed glass the front of house remains in good to ok shape.

Recollection from the author

While nothing special comes of a place you are familiar with in every day life, it was cool to see the behind the scenes action of this particular Burger King, unfortunately scrapped throughout especially in the back of house section. The lobby while still looking poor still had banners and some seating intact, so in short the location was something, nothing to set a record but it was a cool quick exploration.
